Human Rights Day is observed every year on the 10th of December. This day was marked by the United Nations General Assembly in adopting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948. Following the second world war, leaders did not want to see people of any age deprived of their basic human rights. Consequently the declaration was signed by members of the United Nations which consists of 30 articles detailing an individual’s basic human rights and fundamental freedoms.

This year’s slogan for Human Rights Day is ‘Dignity, Freedom and Justice for All’. This is something Moonlight Trust fights for every day as part of our values and aims. For refugees to be given the dignity and freedom they deserve, for those living in poverty to be given the dignity to not feel ashamed of the situation they have found themselves in, and to empower women through education.

Unfortunately these things cannot be solved overnight and as a charity who supports individuals to have their basic human rights met. We work endlessly to campaign, raise funds, implement and deliver projects and raise awareness.

Therefore, it is especially important that on this day we take time to raise awareness, remember those less fortunate and where possible donate to Moonlight Trust so we can continue our work on delivering exactly that, basic human rights.
