Moonlight Trust Stands in solidarity with sisters across the globe to mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Covid-19 has had a huge impact on the safety and health of women everywhere, with many living in fear of their lives. Domestic abuse cases have soared in lockdown, and many lack the support and resources they need to get themselves to safety.

Moonlight Trust wants to reassure women everywhere that we stand in solidarity with their daily struggle to live in peace and safety and extend our support to those that have been affected by domestic abuse and mental health issues during this troubling time.

Here's what we are doing so far to support women everywhere:

  1. Holding our Women’s Career and Cuppa Club, which aims to support women who are economically inactive and underrepresented by building confidence, employability skills, and resilience. So far 90% of our participants have successfully moved into progression via securing paid employment or moving into HE or professional training and qualifications! 2. Providing money, food, clothing, and other important materials to refugees and vulnerable people living in devastating conditions. Often, women in these situations face substantial hardship, such as female refugees being unable to provide for their families, facing sexual assault and harassment in some camps, and bearing the weight of lost family members. 3. Encouraging volunteers to work with us and learn key skills to help them boost their CV’s and confidence. We love seeing young women taking control of their own futures and have worked with fabulous schools such as Batley Girls High School and Kirklees College to do this. Moonlight Trust will continue to fight for women’s rights, freedoms, and safety – together we can do so much more.
